Some players are unfortunately running into an issue where the new VALORANT update keeps pausing, which can be especially frustrating if you have internet speeds on the lower end. As VALORANT is a live service game, there are constantly going to be updates, so you can build up a real headache if this problem doesn't subside. Thankfully there are some things you can try though, so make sure to read the rest of this guide for a fix if your VALORANT update keeps pausing.

There are a handful of causes that are quite clear if your VALORANT update keeps pausing, and they all should be fairly easy to diagnose at the very least. The two most common causes for this issue however come in the form of an unstable internet connection and a lack of storage space on your device.

In terms of an unstable internet connection, it is less about your speed and more about your actual connection strength. One of the most obvious things you can do is reset your router and also your network settings on your PC. This can be found in the 'Network and Internet' section of the Control Panel, navigating to the 'Network Reset' option within the 'Advance Network Settings Option' section.

If this still doesn't work and you think it is your internet connection, you could also connect your device to your router via ethernet, as that will give you the most reliable connection, cutting out any issues WiFi might cause.

In terms of storage, it is very easy to deduce whether this is an issue. Usually, you can see the size of the update that you're downloading, so just head to My Computer to see whether the drive that you're installing it on has enough free space.

One additional thing you can do that can make clearing up space a lot easier is to download the WinDirStat program, as that gives you a full breakdown of what is within your storage drives. This can help you route out some files that you might have otherwise missed, clearing up unnecessary space in the process.

If you've got a device with older components, one thing that you need to be careful of is multitasking, as that can cause a lot of problems when downloading VALORANT updates. Using other programs - even if it is just Chrome - can take up your fairly limited bandwidth, which can cause things like downloads and installations to freeze or slow down if you're not careful.

The final issue that might be causing your VALORANT update to keep pausing is your firewall settings, as that can very easily interfere with or prevent any downloads or connections to the internet if it has the wrong settings.

While it is done in a different way for every antivirus software, your best course of action is to whitelist the VALORANT and Riot Client executable files. Doing so will let the two files bypass your firewall, meaning that they'll be free to operate without interruption.
