Throne and Liberty is a brand new free-to-play MMORPG from acclaimed developer NCSOFT. The game began life as the third instalment in the Lineage series, but through development took on a life and IP of its own.

Although it was originally expected to be released in South Korea only, it has been confirmed to be coming to many more markets, including North America and Europe, and even has a release date ready.

So, here is everything we have learned so far about Throne and Liberty.

What is the release date?

Despite initially being expected earlier, Throne and Liberty is confirmed to release on September 17, 2024.

Trailers

Fans around the world got their first look at what the game will be in the Official Gameplay Trailer in April of 2022. This showed off the world, the combat, and some of the abilities that players can expect to use.

This included some impressive traversal mechanics, magical abilities, and even one of the game's more interesting features - the ability to transform into animals and giant creatures.

The next time players got a proper look at the game was during Summer Game Fest 2023, when the Reveal Trailer was released. This gave players another glimpse at the world, gameplay, and some of the abilities and classes players will be able to use.

The launch date trailer is the most recent, giving us three minutes of footage that showcases the world of Solisium while a narrator explains various features of the game. It starts with a cutscene before going into gameplay, letting us see some class-based combat, boss fights, traversal, and more

What is the gameplay like?

As a third-person fantasy MMORPG, you can expect it to be similar to other games in the genre, but it does have its own unique aspects.

The devs describe it as a "robust social experience" as there's a big focus on guild interactions and alliances, which plays into the PvE and PvP systems, such as the Castle Siege mode.

It also features a dynamic and persistent open world, with factors from this affecting gameplay. For example, the weather can change the effectiveness of your weapons, and even alter the terrain to reveal new playable areas or access points.

What platforms will it be on?

Throne and Liberty is confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will also feature crossplay, so you don't need to worry about sticking to the same platform as your friends.
