Wandering Stellar Blade players who happen upon the Forbidden Area in the Wasteland are right to be confused when they realise they can't access it.

It turns out you can only unlock the area properly through a specific mission in the game, so here's a full rundown of what you need to do.

How to unlock the Forbidden Area

You can only unlock Stellar Blade's Forbidden Area by starting the Xion side quest, "Life of the Scavengers". This quest only becomes available by speaking to Cyrus on the Last Gulp bar in Xion after you complete the main story mission, "Altess Levoire".

However, if the quest still isn't available, keep completing other side quests until the yellow exclamation point marker for a new mission appears on the Last Gulp on your map. I found there's an uncertain number of side quests to reveal Life of the Scavengers, but it will unlock eventually if you keep completing them.

  • Once you head to the quest's marker in the Wasteland as directed, you'll need to climb down the yellow rope nearby and do some minor cliff-hopping as you trek your way down to the bottom.
  • As you reach the red-lit door with the corpse in front, a small cutscene will play before the Brute boss jumps out for a fight

The Brute has the same combat style as the one you fought in the game's prologue. As long as you're well-versed enough in the game's combat mechanics, it won't be too difficult.

Forbidden Area quest rewards

There are multiple rewards to be enjoyed here after you've taken the Brute down in the Forbidden Area as part of Life of the Scavengers. To start, taking down the Brute itself will net you the following:

  • Perfect Combat Gear x 1
  • Extreme Nano Element x 3
  • 1908 Gold
  • Nano Element x 30
  • Damaged Weapon Core x 1
  • Polymer Material x 15
  • Advanced Polymer Material x 11
  • Advanced Nano Element x 16

Next, as you go to Tommy's corpse to retrieve his Memorystick, you'll also get the passcode for the yellow Tetrastar Crate on the left of Sister's Junk on Xion with the following crafting materials inside:

  • Advanced Nano Element x 5
  • Nano Element x 3
  • Advanced Nano Element x 7
  • Polymer Material x 7

In the room behind Tommy's body where the Brute came from, you'll be able to pick up 85 Gold, Polymer Material x 9, and Design Pattern: Sporty Yellow - one of the game's many Nano Suit outfits

Finally, after you go back to Cyrus to complete the quest, I was given enough SP Exp for 3 SP, Sonic Grenade x 2, a Biotic Field Generator, and a Lingering Potion.
