If you've finished your first playthrough of Starfield, you might want to dive into a New Game Plus playthrough - but does this feature even exist in the game? Here's what you need to know.

New Game Plus exists in many modern games today, but Bethesda has, up until this point, not included this feature in one of their games. The mode typically allows players to restart in a fresh playthrough, but bring with them what they have earned and learnt from their first run.

Sometimes it will include just knowledge and skills, whilst in some games - like Elden Ring - you can also keep all your items. So, let's dive into everything we know so far about New Game Plus in Starfield.

Yes, Starfield does have a New Game Plus mode, which is a complete first for the studio and its games.

This was previously confirmed by Game Director Todd Howard in a GQ Interview, stating that it "adds a unique and exciting twist on New Game Plus to incentivise continued and repeat play."

SPOILER WARNING: Below there may be spoilers for what you can expect from Starfield's New Game Plus mode, so proceed with your own caution.

Once you finish Starfield, you can access New Game Plus during the final mission. You will be given the choice to finish the game, starting again via New Game Plus, or you can keep on exploring in the current game state.

If you decide to delay the ending, you can return to this decision whenever you decide it is time to restart.

During New Game Plus, you no longer have to play the main story of Starfield - they can be skipped because you already know the secret of the universe.

There isn't, as far as we know, a limit on how many times you can play a New Game Plus, so every time you begin a fresh game it resets the Universe, sending you to a fresh multiverse. Every time you reset, the world may be slightly different with the Tower locations changing, as well as the roles NPCs play in the Constellation.

Beginning a New Game Plus playthrough in Starfield carries over certain things, whilst other items do not. We have listed below everything that will carry over in New Game Plus and everything that won't:

What carries over in New Game Plus

  • All powers you have earned
  • Temples will now offer upgraded powers
  • Skills
  • Traits
  • Levels

What doesn't carry over in Starfield

  • Companion relationships are reset
  • Items are left behind
  • Money is left behind
  • Outposts
  • Planet scans are reset
  • Ships

Though you may lose a lot when you move into New Game Plus, it does allow you to become even more powerful and offers vast opportunities to change the world.

Whilst playing, you will also get a new space suit and ship when you start again - the Starborn Spacesuit you earn is undoubtedly one of the very best in the game.

So that's everything you need to know about New Game Plus in Starfield.
