Best cards in Pokemon TCG Twilight Masquerade expansion

The Pokemon TCG: Scarlet & Violet - Twilight Masquerade expansion has finally arrived, bringing loads of incredible cards like Ogerpon and Bloodmoon Ursaluna to the trading card game.

Whether you're a longtime Pokemon card collector or you've only just been drawn in by the promise of flashy Illustration Rares from the land of Kitakami, the latest expansion has something to offer everyone. Here are the best cards you'll want to pull from the new set.

Best Pokemon cards in Twilight Masquerade

Greninja ex

The major chase card in this expansion is the Special Illustration Rare variant of Greninja ex. It has a market value of $130, and it's not hard to see why. This card has the best of both worlds - incredible artwork and competitive playability - making it the holy grail for many collectors and players.

With a Fighting Tera type, this Greninja ex card can deal 170 damage and search for any card in your deck with just one Energy by using the attack Shinobi Blade. If it's a Benched Pokemon that's causing you trouble, unleash Mirage Barrage to dish out 120 damage to two of your opponent's Pokemon.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex

While cards like Greninja ex need to be set up as early as possible in a match, Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex looks like it'll be an end-game treasure. Its sole attack, Blood Moon, might seem unviable with its five Energy cost, but the ability Seasoned Skill comes in clutch to make it much more accessible.

For each prize card your opponent takes, Blood Moon costs one less Energy. This means if your opponent has knocked out two of your ex-Pokemon and claimed four prize cards, you'll only need one Energy to unleash this devastating 240-power attack. If they've claimed five prize cards, it's free to use!

Like Greninja ex, this is a card that has both style and substance, so it's no surprise that it's currently fetching a market value of around $62 for the Special Illustration Rare variant.

All four Ogerpon ex cards

As the face of the Twilight Masquerade expansion, I expected big things from Ogerpon ex, and from what I've seen (and played), it looks like it has some real potential to shake up the competitive scene.

With four variations to discover - each featuring a different Energy type - and an Ogre's Mask card that lets you switch your active Ogerpon ex out with any discarded Ogerpon ex, there are loads of strategies you can try out with these cards.

Even better, they've all got excellent attacks and abilities to try out. For example, Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon deals 140 more damage to evolved Pokemon, while Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon doesn't take any damage at all from opponents who have an ability.

Only time will tell if Ogerpon ex is able to make a dent in the well-established meta of Charizards, Chien-Paos, and Giratinas, but it's an interesting addition to the game regardless. I'm having a lot of fun with them on the Pokemon TCG Live app.

Dragapult ex

Dragapult has been a mainstay in my VG Pokemon team since it debuted in Sword & Shield, so it's always nice to see it get some usability in the TCG as well. Twilight Masquerade's Dragapult ex-card is causing buzz among competitive players, with its Phantom Dive attack dishing out 200 damage and letting you place six damage counters on a Benched Pokemon of your choice.

In the right scenario, this attack could be enough to knock out your opponent's active Pokemon and a basic Pokemon on their Bench, giving you the potential to stop them from setting up an important evolution. All of this plus a whopping 320 HP? I'm seeing bright things in Dragapult's future. Now, I just need to pull the card myself...

Eevee

As soon as this adorable Eevee Illustration Rare was revealed (right here on GGRecon), I knew it was going to be my chase card. And it seems other collectors agree, as it's currently got a market value of around $38.

Featuring eight Eevees - some playful, some sleepy - relaxing on an armchair as the sun shines through the window, it's one of the cosiest cards the Pokemon TCG has ever seen. It's not going to make any waves in the competitive scene, but when it looks this cute, who cares?
