Deck Nine is back with another Life is Strange game, and Double Exposure is revising the very familiar protagonist of Max Caulfield. Set several years after the events of the first Life is Strange game, it will follow Max as she tries to use her power for the first time in ages.

Set up with a murder mystery plot, there’s lots to be excited about with this latest addition to the Life is Strange family. Below, I’ve explained some of the new gameplay mechanics and story details, as well as when you can get your hands on the game yourself.

Story details for Life is Strange Double Exposure

Set a few years on from when we last saw Max Caulfield, she’s attending the Caledon University as a photographer-in-residence. There, she’s found a new best friend in Safi, although her body is soon found dead in the surrounding snow - seemingly murdered.

As we know from the first Life is Strange game, Max can turn back time using her supernatural power. After learning of her friend's death, she tries to use her power to prevent it from happening, but this only opens up a doorway to a parallel timeline in which Safi hasn’t been murdered yet.

The story will unfold from there, with Max skipping between the two timelines to figure out who Safi’s killer might be, and if she can stop it from happening in both timelines.

What’s the gameplay like in Double Exposure?

We can likely expect similar gameplay to what we’ve previously seen in other Life is Strange games. There will be lots of walking around and talking to people, with dialogue choices affecting how the story plays out. These decisions will likely have massive effects on the game’s story, with multiple narrative threads to explore in different playthroughs.

A big gameplay change this time will be the ability to swap between timelines at certain moments in the story. We’re not sure if this is something that Max can do on command, but given that it’s massively teased within the story and gameplay, it’s likely that this mechanic will play a big role in solving some of the game’s puzzles and mysteries.
