Fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on June 11 may be wondering where exactly it sits inside the Ratchet & Clank lore. The game releases exclusively (for now) on PlayStation 5, offering fans old and new a chance to enter a new adventure.

Rift Apart is a multi-universal adventure, which sees Ratchet and Clank travelling through different dimensions to stop the multiverse imploding - but how? Well, in the 2013 title Into The Nexus, the characters recover a device called the Dimensionator, which allows them to jump through dimensional rifts. So surely, the 2021 title is following on from the 2013 events?

So, is Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart canon? Is it standalone? Will the events hark back to previous titles in the series? We have all the answers, and more.

Is Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Canon?

Those who are particularly interested in how much they're going to need to know about Ratchet & Clank before they embark on this new gameplay experience can rest assured that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart does indeed continue the canon from the original timeline. The events take place after the 2013 title Ratchet & Clank: Into The Nexus.

For those not up to date on R&C, developer Insomniac Games have ensured new players that the new PS5 title will work as a standalone game too, when it arrives on PS5 on June 11.

Which Ratchet and Clank games are canon?

For those curious, an interesting tidbit of canon info is that all Insomniac Games' R&C titles are canon, except for the 2016 title, simply named Ratchet & Clank.

Is Ratchet and Clank rift apart a sequel?

Not quite. When it comes to the timeline, Rift Apart is actually a follow on from the 2013 PlayStation 3 title Ratchet & Clank: Into The Nexus, and not a direct continuation of the 2016 reboot.
