Compelling Shades in Hades 2 is one of the many ways that you can gain resources in abundance in-game, and this particular item can make your runs easier if used correctly.

You might have seen these lonely ghost-like figures during an encounter and not known what to do with them, but thankfully there's a Tool that you can use - opening up the opportunity to grow stronger and take down some of the toughest bosses.

How to compel Shades

In order to compel Shades you'll need to unlock and equip the Tablet of Peace, which is accessible after activating the 'Night's Craftwork' Incantation, which allows you to access Tools.

In order to unlock the Tablet of Peace you'll need to exchange 5 Silver and 5 Psyche. Silver is obtained by using the Crescent Pick in Erebus, whereas Psyche (for the time being) is only sourced as a reward for completing Encounters. Just look for the Psyche icon on any doors as you're travelling through, and it shouldn't take you too long to get enough.

What does compelling Shades do?

When you compel Shades you'll earn yourself 30 Psyche, but you will have to make sure that your button presses line up with what the Shades say.

This is by far the best way to earn Psyche, which you can then use to increase your Grasp, which lets you active more Arcana Cards.

I've found this one of the best ways to progress, as Arcana Cards give incredibly strong benefits so having more of them gives you a better chance of survival. I'm currently at 21 Grasp, and upgrading takes over 150 Psyche, so having the Tablet of Peace to compel Shades is super helpful.
