It may be the first race week of the 2024 F1 season, but that’s not the only exciting news for motorsport at the moment. This year’s instalment of Codemasters’ racing game, F1 24, already has a release date, with the studio promising an overhaul of some of the game’s biggest features.

Below, I’ll go through everything we currently know about F1 24, including when you can expect it to release on PC and Consoles, the biggest changes to its gameplay, and some of the early pre-order bonuses you can acquire right now.

When will F1 24 release?

F1 24 is currently set to release on May 31, 2024. That’s a little earlier than the F1 games have released in the past, with Codemasters usually dropping the game around June or July.

Instead, we can expect to be sending it down the inside line not long after the Monaco GP 2024.

I'll detail more about the game's pre-order bonuses down below, but you can get early access to F1 24 on May 28 if you do choose to pre-order.

What’s new in F1 24?

In a press release, Senior Creative Director Lee Mather explained that F1 24 will feature “an overhauled Career mode, a new EA SPORTS Dynamic Handling System, and so much more.”

The F1 Career mode has previously let players create their own team, playing out each race in a season one by one in a bid to win both the Drivers and Constructors Championship. Along the way, they’ll need to manage their team’s staff and budget allocation, providing plenty of gameplay variation for different runs.

Following the success of F1 Manager from Fronter in the last few years, it seems that Codemasters might be taking a few notes from the masters of management sims for the F1 24 rendition of Career mode.

What’s more, the handling system of the F1 games has regularly come under scrutiny for being too arcadey in some aspects, and not realistic enough in others. From the sounds of it, Codemasters might have some exciting news for players on that front.

Mather teases that a full reveal of F1 24 is coming ‘soon’, with the reveal trailer mentioning that more information will arrive in April - I’ll keep my eyes peeled!

What about the pre-order bonuses?

The launch of F1 24 might still be over three months away, but you can already nab yourself some neat pre-order bonuses to use in the F1 23 game right now.

Starting this weekend, F1 23 players who pre-order F1 24 can take part in Time Trial challenges using the all-new cars for the 2024 season. These were only revealed a few weeks ago by the official F1 teams, so they’re extremely hot off the press.

You can also earn yourself some McLaren and Alpine esports liveries to use in F1 23 right away, and these will carry over to F1 24, too. Codemasters promises that even more pre-order bonus liveries are coming in April, so I’ll update this piece once those are announced too.

That’s not all for the F1 24 pre-order bonuses, either. The following items will be provided to players who pre-order either the digital exclusive Champions Edition, or just the standard version:

F1 24 Champions Edition Pre-order Bonuses F1 24 Standard Edition Pre-order bonuses
Two new Formula 1 Icons One bonus VIP Podium Pass
18,000 Pitcoin 5,000 Pitcoin
F1 Wold Bumper Pack featuring resources for single and multiplayer gameplay events F1 World Starter Pack
Three days early access (starting May 28, 2024)
One bonus VIP Podium Pass

If you find yourself on the fence about pre-ordering, Codemasters has a deal on for veterans of the series. If you own F1 2021, F1 22 or F1 23, you’re eligible for a 15% discount on the digital Champions Edition of F1 24.

However, this deal will only last for a limited amount of time, so take advantage while you still can!

What platforms is F1 24 coming to?

F1 24 will arrive on the following list of platforms:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • PlayStation 4
  • Xbox One
  • PC via EA App, Epic Games Store, and Steam

It’s great to see that Codemasters is still supporting the older generation of consoles with new F1 games, although it remains to be seen how those versions hold up on the now ageing hardware.
