HIGHLIGHTS:
- There are usually two wipes a year in Escape from Tarkov (Summer and Winter)
- The next wipe is scheduled to happen in August 2024
- Wipes reset your account back to its initial state, removing all items and progression
It's vital that you know when the next wipe in Escape from Tarkov will be, as it'll help you maximise your time, complete quests, and try out all of the meta weapons before your progress is reset.
Unlike most games out there, Tarkov resets your progress twice a year, meaning that you have to build up your stash, complete quests, and progress through the Traders all over again. What doesn't help is that each wipe doesn't have a fixed date in-game, so it's constantly a race to keep up with the latest news and information.
When is the next wipe?
While an official date is yet to be confirmed, Battlestate Games announced following the May 2024 TarkovTV episode that the next wipe will happen in August 2024.

This is indicated by the 'EFT Patch' in the penultimate section of the roadmap, indicating that new content including weapons, expansions, and quality-of-life improvements will land with the wipe. It is likely that this will mark patch 0.15, so it's always nice to have a round number for a new wipe.
With this being the typical 'summer' wipe, I wouldn't expect another until at least December 2024. It is unclear whether things will slow down a little bit as we're eventually approaching the full version, so it could perhaps be longer as new changes are prepped.
How often do wipes happen in Escape from Tarkov?
Historically there have always been two wipes a year in Escape from Tarkov, with one happening in the middle in Summer and one just before the end in Winter.
There have been 15 wipes in total across the course of the game's lifespan, with an average of around 160 days or five and a half months between wipes.
If the next wipe was to land on August 31st - the latest possible date if we're going by the roadmap - it would have been 248 days since the previous 0.14 wipe. This would make it the longest wipe by quite a margin, and even the shortest possible timeframe would make it the second-longest wipe in history.
What does a wipe do?
Wipes reset your progress completely and return your account to the state it would be in if you just purchased the game. Any items and roubles that you obtained during the wipe will be deleted, and any progress you've made with quests or Traders is gone too.

You'll thankfully retain any of the edition-specific items that you're entitled to, so you don't have to worry about losing your Gamma case or special weapons every half year.
Wipes help keep the game fresh and the player base active, as it can start to feel a bit repetitive in the late wipe stages with nothing left to do and little tension left to keep raids intriguing. Many players agree that the first month of a new wipe is the best period, as everyone is on a level playing field and it captures much of what makes Tarkov so unique.
