Have you had a run-in with the Elden Ring Beastman of Farum Azula boss? This early game boss is one of the ways Elden Ring challenges players while teaching them what to expect. The Beastman is a savage enemy, emblematic of many of the creatures you will face throughout the game. To help you get to grips with this boss fight, this is How To Beat The Groveside Cave Boss, Beastman of Farum Azula.

  • As well as the Beastman, another early dungeon boss you’ll want to beat is the Erdtree Burial Watchdog. For more, check out Elden Ring Erdtree Burial Watchdog: How To Beat The Stormfoot Catacombs Boss.

The Beastman of Farum Azula can be found in the Groveside Cave dungeon. Heading from the Church of Elleh towards to Gatefront Ruins, you will see a soldier sitting by a fire outside a cave. This is the place, a short and relatively easy dungeon that is likely to be one of the first most players find. Head down into the cave, activate the site of grace, then head inside.

The dungeon isn’t much of a dungeon at all, it really is just a bit of a cave. Past the site of grace there is a large cave chamber. It is very dark there, so it is a good idea to bring a torch or equip a lantern. Here you will find several wolves, mostly asleep. You can take on the wolves if you choose, but they can mostly be avoided. When you enter the chamber, you can go straight ahead but the way to the boss room is to your right. Once you're done here, head down to the right side to find the boss.

  • It’s a tricky decision, picking a Keepsake before you have even started the game. If you aren’t too sure what the right decision there was, check out Elden Ring Keepsakes: Best Keepsake to Choose When Creating A Character.

The Beastman of Farum Azula is as wild as his name suggests. He is a large humanoid figure with a huge sword, but he is not a slow mover. This guy will come out swinging, so be prepared for that. The room you fight him in is quite wide, so make use of the space to keep your distance when need be.

Once you have your bearings, you’re ready to fight him. The Beastman represents one of the main types of enemies you will fight in the game, he is fast and aggressive. Fast and aggressive usually means one thing, easily staggered.

One of the main mechanics of Elden Ring combat is staggering enemies. Like previous Fromsoftware games, there is a poise stat in this game. It works differently here though, try to imagine that each enemy has an invisible stagger meter. When you hit them, that meter goes down. Bigger hits take more off, but that meter refills over time. So, constant attacks and massive hits will quickly stagger your enemy. The Beastman of Farum Azula is very easily staggered, so it’s a good boss fight for learning how that works.

Use heavy attacks to stagger The Beastman. When he is staggered, he will drop to a knee. At this point, stand in front of him and hit R1/RB to do a riposte attack. This is similar to hitting a backstab, but from head-on. It will do massive damage, just a couple of those will lay out the Beastman of Farum Azula.

Follow those tips and you will have no problem bringing down the Beastman of Farum Azula. Once he is dealt with, you’ll want to make your way to Stormveil Castle and face your first real challenge, Margit. For more on that, check out Elden Ring Margit Boss Fight: How To Beat Margit, The Fell Omen.
