Exotic class items are coming to Destiny 2 with The Final Shape, and they might just break the game. Alongside the launch of Into the Light, we got a glimpse of some of the wild new features coming in the next expansion.

These new exotic class items will work well in tandem with the new Prismatic subclass, and add a whole new level to crafting builds in Destiny 2. Here's what they do.

How do exotic class items work?

The key feature of the exotic class items arriving in The Final Shape is that each one will come with two random perks taken from other exotic armour pieces. For example, if you get a class item that comes with Spirit of Star-Eater and Spirit of Ophidian, you will get the exotic perks of Star-Eater Scales and Ophidian Aspect at the same time.

These perks only work with the new Prismatic subclass, but both are active at the same time. These perks are randomly rolled, meaning just about any pairing you can think of can appear on an exotic class item. This also means that specific, desirable rolls will be exceptionally rare.

By 'any pairing', they really mean any, as the perks you get are not tied to your class. You could get a Hunter exotic cloak and find it has one perk from a piece of Titan armour, and the other from the Warlock pool. To say that this will completely change how build crafting will work in Destiny 2 is an understatement.

It seems then that the purpose of these class items is to give you a starting point to work with when putting together your Prismatic build. If you happen to get an exotic class item with perks that benefit Solar and Stasis builds, then maybe you can blend those elements through Prismatic to get the most use out of it.

This could lead to some truly unique builds, things that cannot easily be replicated by other players. Exactly how powerful these builds can get remains to be seen, but if nothing else, this is the most interesting change that Bungie has made to Destiny in years.
