After you visit Nilfheim for the first time, Sindri will task in you in a Favor to retrieve 500 Mist Echoes from the Nilfheim Labyrinth to trade for the key to Ivaldi's Workshop. Completing the Favor altogether rewards you with three pieces each of Ivaldi's Rusted Armour for the chest, wrist, and waist respectively. Using these nine pieces, you can start crafting pieces of Mist Armor choosing from three variations: Deadly Mist Armor, Cursed Mist Armor, and Endless Mist Armor. Each type of Mist Armor favours different stats, so choose whichever fits your playstyle.
