xQc Loses 2 Million Twitch Followers Overnight
Felix "xQc" Lengyel has started 2021 by ruling Twitch with an iron first. Taking his repertoire of games to a new level, xQc has provided endless hours of entertainment for his fans, getting up to his usual stirring antics, all the while having a large grin on his face.
Most recently, Lengyel was caught making waves in the Grand Theft Auto Role Play community, in which the streamer was permanently banned from the NoPixel server. The ban was enforced after xQc encouraged his audience to hop to other streamers' chats to plead his innocence after being stricken with a lengthy in-game prison sentence, something which violates the Terms of Services.
Despite the shenanigans, xQc was by far the most-watched streamer of the early months of 2021, and has continued on his upwards trajectory to Twitch stardom.
However, the streamer was surprisingly hit with a harsh removal of followers, after Twitch clamped down on fake accounts, known as bots.
Taking to Twitter, Twitch said: "We have been monitoring the rise of fake engagement on Twitch and have identified 7.5MM+ accounts that break our TOS by follow-botting and view-botting. We are taking action on these accounts and appreciate all of the reports about this issue."
One of the first streamers to be hit by the wave is xQc, whose following took a whopping dent of two million accounts.
As of April 14, xQc lost 2,163,799 followers from his previous week, leaving him sat on 5.5 million.
Despite the hefty blow, xQc seemed unphased, taking to the platform to say: "the followers mean nothing to me", in terms of the overall number rather than the engaged audience that visit his channel regularly.
With 7.5 million bots on the purge list, the number of fans that other huge streamers have may also take a significant dip in the near future.
