It was bad enough that Xbox players had to sit and wait while PC and PlayStation users enjoyed the world of Faerûn in Baldur's Gate 3 with no release in sight for themselves, but now they've finally had the chance to play the game, they might wish that they hadn't at all.

Our very own Game of the Year winner is no stranger to bugs and glitches - as is expected of any game this size, but there are few worse fates you can encounter when playing a game than all of your progress being deleted.

This is the unfortunate reality for many players on Team Green, and there doesn't seem to be a true resolution in sight.

The ominous save deletion bug has been present in the Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 ever since its late launch, giving players the biggest threat possible to their 100+ hour potential playthrough.

While Larian has indicated that it's an issue only Microsoft can fix, and Xbox has seemingly done what they think should resolve the issue for 'most' players, the problem still persists in alarming numbers.

I'd be wary about progressing in the game if I were on Xbox right now, as while we all know how encompassing the world and its many characters can be, the last thing you'll want is to lose it all and have to start again.

Is a fix on the way?

The worst thing about this all is that there doesn't seem to be any resolution to the issue soon, leaving many players in no man's land when it comes to playing the game they'd paid for.

Larian's Director of Publishing Michael Douse has indicated that there is a friction between the 'very unique features' of both the Xbox system and Baldur's Gate 3, which leads to 'some weird-ass fringe cases' like this save deletion bug.

That does seem to imply that it's not an easy thing to fix though, so who knows how long it'll be until goblins and magic are the only dangers you'll face when traversing the Forgotten Realms.
