Call of Duty arriving on Xbox Game Pass was met with Microsoft's ethos of "reaching more gamers than ever before," but while that might have been a good idea in principle for Activision's shooter, those open doors have no sieve to filter out the dirt.

Rather than seeing influxes of new players, the Game Pass has reportedly stirred in a bunch of hackers. So much so that players are reporting that Modern Warfare 3 is "hell" as so many hackers are getting into the game for free.

Modern Warfare 3 slammed as 'hell' after Xbox Game Pass release

MW3 has become the first-ever Call of Duty to be released on Game Pass, with Black Ops 6 joining it later this year. But already, this is becoming regretted, as PC players are masquerading as console users and are enabling cheat software.

Players reported that PC users were being tagged as Xbox users if playing on Game Pass, effectively allowing hackers to get free access to Modern Warfare 3 rather than having to continue to purchase the $70 game.

You can even get free trials to Game Pass, which makes getting into MW3 very easy, even if you have been banned. Since MW3's pass launch last week, hackers have reportedly been rampant, and Ranked play has especially suffered.

The hacks are obvious too, as players are using aimbot and spinning around in spawn, wall-banging enemies across the map.

"CoD ranked is in hell," said Chris "Parasite" Duarte. "Cheaters on PC using wall hacks and aimbots. Cheaters using game pass to play Xbox crossplay off lobbies from their PCs with hacks. Cheaters on PS5 using Cronus and Xims with auto-pinging so they basically have wall hacks anyway. Holy s**t."

Call of Duty caster Brodie "Nfinity" Lyon added, "Depressing how unplayable ranked play has become in MW3. Hackers have totally ruined the experience. Sad because I actually enjoy playing it."

Modern Warfare 3's free access hasn't gone down well, and Microsoft will likely be wanting to stop the flood ahead of Black Ops 6's launch.
