Call of Duty was always going to come to Game Pass, but ahead of Black Ops 6's release on the subscription service, Microsoft has sprung a surprise.

Modern Warfare 3 is the current title in the annual franchise, and even as it heads toward its own end, it's set to find a whole new legion of fans when it arrives tomorrow (July 24) for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

Modern Warfare 3 hits Game Pass tomorrow

As shared via X (formerly Twitter), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will arrive on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass tomorrow, July 24.

That lets players get acquainted with the game, its recreation of iconic Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps, and post-launch additions in time for Season 5.

"Get ready to lock in and load(out) as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III makes its way to Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate starting July 24!," the Xbox Wire blog post explains.

"Featuring a high-octane single-player campaign, energetic multiplayer and the series’ first open world Zombies experience, this game offers something for every type of CoD player."

The blog doesn't mention Cloud support for the title, but it is confirmed to come to console, PC, and Ultimate. The news comes following Microsoft's changes to the Xbox Game Pass membership earlier this month, which will take effect from September and sees price hikes alongside a new 'Standard' tier.

As for Modern Warfare 3 itself, the campaign is infamously short but its reverence for classic maps from the original Modern Warfare 2 has kept its multiplayer going strong. Combined with fresh updates, including a whole host of crossovers, it means there's still plenty of life in the title.

In our review, we said: "Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer is the shining light of this year's Call of Duty offering and is without a doubt the glue holding the whole package together. Unfortunately, it's hard to ignore the glaring cracks in what should have probably been an expansion for MW2."
