Xbox charts are being overrun by Call of Duty
If Xbox ever felt superior in the console wars, with the firepower Sony has with exclusive titles, Microsoft has just levelled the playing field with the almost-closed Activision acquisition.
Already, Microsoft is twerking with the Call of Duty franchise, teasing fans with what's in store once it gets full control of the series.
Just a week after the merger was passed in the USA, the Call of Duty franchise is back in full swing and has now completely taken over the Xbox best-seller charts.
Microsoft confirm it re-activated old Call of Duty games
Only recently, old Call of Duty Xbox 360 games appeared to be activated again, years after being made dormant. With this spreading, thousands of players have been unlocking their childhood memories and taking a walk down that lane.
Over 10,000 people have been matchmaking on Black Ops 2, with similar figures ringing true for the likes of World at War, Black Ops 1, and Modern Warfare 2 (2009). Now Microsoft has revealed that it was the reason these games are now alive again, taking responsibility for supporting the titles again.
Call of Duty dominates Xbox charts
With so many older games inviting players to get a hefty nostalgia boost, Call of Duty now occupies all of the top-five slots for best-selling games on Xbox. It means the shooter series is ruling it over poor Blizzard's Diablo.
Black Ops 2 currently sits as the best-seller, with Modern Warfare 2 (2009) and Black Ops 1 both coming in over the top of the current MW2 title. The old Modern Warfare 3 game is sitting in fifth place.
All of these games are now on sale in both console variations (Xbox 360 and backwards compatible Xbox Series X|S versions), with savings of up to $35.
Microsoft's first move with the Call of Duty series has been a resounding success, and the future looks bright should it successfully negotiate with the UK CMA and finish the deal.
