Xbox Boss Promises Call Of Duty Will Stay On PlayStation
The recent purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft has been immensely exciting for Xbox players - but it's also brought up a lot of questions. The record-breaking deal has given Xbox a lot of options, and a lot of leverage too - as any game series that falls under the banner of the company could end up as an exclusive title to the console.
It could have huge repercussions in the gaming industry, dictating once and for all which console that players choose to pick up, but there's one franchise that leads the debate. And Phil Spencer has assured players that it's not going to become exclusive to Xbox.
Is Call Of Duty Staying With PlayStation?
Many have wondered (and worried) whether or not the Call of Duty franchise will become an exclusive title for the Xbox line of consoles, as not only would it limit choices for players, but also make a huge impact on the monopolisation of the gaming industry. Thankfully, though, it looks as though players don't have anything to worry about.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer has come forward to assert that Call of Duty on PlayStation is safe, as suggested in a tweet.
"Had good calls this week with leaders at Sony", he says. "I confirmed our intent to honor all existing agreements upon acquisition of Activision Blizzard and our desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation. Sony is an important part of our industry, and we value our relationship." Nawh, bless him.
What Does This Mean For Call Of Duty?
It looks like the exclusivity debate for Call of Duty is over, but there's still every chance that Xbox could sweeten the pot with a day one launch on Game Pass, exclusive DLC, early access - truly, anything could happen. We'd be stunned if Xbox didn't do anything to make it more exciting to be a Call of Duty fan on Xbox, but it looks like we know for sure that PlayStation is hanging onto the franchise for a little longer.
This purchase has forced the games industry to ask itself some big questions, and the first one on every Call of Duty fans' lips has thankfully been answered. Don't worry, PlayStation loyalists - you're safe for now.
