Slide cancelling was first discovered in Modern Warfare 2019 & the original Warzone, with the technique quickly spreading across the community.

Before long, nearly all high-skill players were utilising the mechanic to manoeuvre across the map efficiently and outplay their foes.

Despite this, with the release of Modern Warfare 2 & Warzone 2, slide cancelling was removed from the game. This decision was made after complaints from a portion of fans that it made the skill gap too high, and it just didn't make sense that it was possible.

Well, now the end of MW2's cycle is on the horizon, a poll has shown that the majority of players believe removing slide-cancelling was a mistake and that they want it back in the upcoming Modern Warfare 3.

Taking to Twitter on July 5, popular Call of Duty account ModernWarzone held a poll that asked players, "Are you happy Call of Duty and Warzone removed slide cancelling this year?"

In total, 45,000 votes were counted, and 64% of fans revealed that they are not happy that slide cancelling was removed from the game. It is worth noting that 36% did make it clear they're glad the movement mechanic is gone, so it certainly wasn't a landslide vote.

Overall, the most common argument for bringing slide cancelling back is that it increases the ability to outplay your opponents in skirmishes. Not only that, it's argued that it sets apart the top-tier players from the lower-skill competitors.

Will Call of Duty bring slide cancelling back in MW3?

With Call of Duty 2023 or Modern Warfare 3 expected to arrive in November, a lot of players are curious whether the devs would consider bringing slide cancelling back.

This seems extremely unlikely, as the movement mechanic was never intended to be in the game, and from an outside perspective, the technique looks very strange. Repeatedly sliding over and over again in short succession doesn't appear very natural, and it's something the devs would likely want to keep locked away.

On top of that, casual players make it up the biggest proportion of the CoD community, and they were the most vocal about removing slide cancelling back in the original Warzone.
