Although the lore for Mortal Kombat is pretty dense for a game series about big, tough, guys coming together to smack each other a bit, that won't stop NetherRealm from making things harder for itself.

After practically resetting the entire universe and readjusting the timeline from the very beginning, Mortal Kombat 1 went down a treat with fans. MKI offers players new versions of the characters we know and love, and with the success of the rebooted movie, it's clear that people are still invested in the narrative.

As it turns out, an old collab could have turned into a cinematic crossover for the ages, as Warner Bros. apparently turned down a Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe movie.

It has been revealed by the writer of a long line of Mortal Kombat animated movies that the classic collab between MK and the DC Universe could have come to life in its own movie. Jeremy Adams is known for penning Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge, Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind, and Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms

Adams spoke on the matter in an interview with ComicBook.com, and though he has said that a pitch was indeed made, he reckons we should lower our expectations: "I think at the end of the day, I don't know if they're ever going to do any more.

"I hope they do, and I hope they call me to be involved. That would be great because I really love it. But I don't know. I don't know. I think it would be really cool though. Trust me, I would love to see a DC Mortal Kombat. That would be super, super cool."

What would the MK vs DC movie entail?

It's hard to know what story the movie itself would tell, because frankly, even the game was pretty plot-light. In the 2008 fighter, Shao Kahn invaded Earthrealm to be met with Raiden's forces of light. Superman blasted Darkseid with heat vision in the DC Universe, and as such, the two universes collide.

From there on out, scrapping ensues, with both universes blaming the other for the convergence. Who knows whether the Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe animated movie would follow the same plot, or if it could even make it work for a good hour and a half.

Either way, we'd watch it even if it were the same trainwreck that the game was. The Injustice games have largely overtaken the popularity of Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe and even had their own animated outing, so it's a shame its predecessor has been resigned to the bargain bin.
