Ubisoft has offered some pretty disturbing reminders of the drawbacks of digital gaming. Its attitude to the decommissioning of Assassin's Creed: Liberation was pretty bleak, stripping it from digital storefronts and never allowing players to pick it up ever again.

It's a deeply sad attitude that puts video game preservation at risk, and for fans of the franchise, it has left a hole that players will never be able to fill. Now, it looks like Ubisoft is ready to strip you of your games all over again. This is the digital revolution.

Ubisoft could be about to steal your games back

As a new reminder of the fact that you never truly own digital games anymore, Ubisoft is kicking into gear to strip out its inactive accounts - but it's robbing those accounts of games they've paid for in the process.

Players have reportedly been issued an email if they've been deemed an inactive account. If they don't click the link they've been given, their account will be zapped out of existence. And yes, their games will be lost in the process.

It seems that Ubisoft is always the first to attack the preservation of games that players already own, and it's  frustrating that it's not more passionate about the hard work that has gone into the creation of the games that have made Ubisoft such a big name.

Ubisoft 'does not want' to take your games

Ubisoft itself has rocked up to the party to assert its side, from the UbisoftSupport Twitter account. "We just wanted to chime in that you can avoid the account closure by logging into your account within the 30 days (since receiving the email pictured) and selecting the Cancel Account Closure link contained in the email," it says.

"We certainly do not want you to lose access to your games or account so if you have any difficulties logging in then please create a support case with us." Though the company claims it doesn't want to take your games away, it's going to do it anyway. Make sure your account is airtight, or you're in trouble.
