Yeah, this isn't it. While there's been a resurgence in live-action video game adaptations, just because everyone else is doing it, doesn't mean you should. The first look at Peacock's Twisted Metal series has aired, and safe to say, viewers are royally tearing it apart online.

While the likes of The Last of Us fit neatly into the supposed new golden era of television, other outings like Netflix's Resident Evil have fallen short of the mark. Gamers were also split on Paramount's Halo series, but while there's hope it'll turn things around in Season 2, Twisted Metal is already off to a rough start.

Twisted Metal series debuts at Summer Game Fest

Debuting as part of Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest, we got our first look at the Anthony Mackie-led Twisted Metal series. Mackie plays an amnesiac milkman called John Doe, who's tasked with carrying a package across this apocalyptic wasteland.

It's seemingly a twist on the John Doe character from Twisted Metal: Black, but we all know the real reason we're watching the series... it's Sweet Tooth. The nightmarish clown is synonymous with the Twisted Metal franchise and appears here, played by WWE's Samoa Joe. But, there's more to the story.

Twisted Metal fans are confused about why Sweet Tooth is physically played by Samoa Joe but is voiced by Arrested Development's Will Arnett. Arnett is a beloved voice actor as heard in the likes of LEGO Batman, but it seems like an odd choice to cast someone like Samoa Joe when any old body actor would've worked.

Twisted Metal fans confused by first clip

Tearing Twisted Metal apart, one fan wrote, "Can't wait to watch this & have my soul crushed. First Resident Evil. Now this. Stop touching video game IP's unless you’re passionate about em." Another said, "I'm gonna watch this because I'm desperate for anything Twisted Metal but I'm not gonna be happy about it."

As the whole premise of Twisted Metal is driving wild vehicles and blowing things to smithereens, the lack of vehicles was...concerning. Someone else joked, "My favorite part of this was watching all the cars destroy each other." Another concluded, "I'm so confused with what this series is supposed to be."

There were some supporters. One wrote, "That Twisted Metal sneak peak with Needles/Sweet Tooth is so stupid, I absolutely love it. Remember that the original 4 games on the PS1 has always been silly and campy. I'm kinda glad they're not going for the gritty tone and just embrace the camp."

Twisted Metal was always a silly and blood-soaked affair, but seeing Sweet Tooth beat the crap out of Mackie's character in a ruined casino while singing Sisqo's "Thong Song" confirms exactly what kind of series this is going to be. We'll give it a go, but as someone said, we won't be happy about it.
