Zombie games are a dime a dozen these days, and while headlines are mainly taken up by Resident Evil and The Last of Us (we know we shouldn't call it a zombie game), let's spare a thought for those unsung heroes.

From Left 4 Dead to Dead IslandDays Gone to Telltale's The Walking Dead, it's easy to forget it's not just Umbrella and the Infected. None are more underrated than Dying Light. Still, the franchise has a loyal fan base, leading to questions about whether Techland will give us Dying Light 3

Techland teases Dying Light 3

The first Dying Light was released in 2015, focusing on undercover agent Kyle Crane in the Middle-eastern city of Harran - being overrun by the undead. It was a huge hit and unsurprisingly led to Dying Light 2: Stay Human in 2022. The sequel was a middling affair, but still, it hasn't stopped talk about a threequel.

It seems that while Techland isn't ready to resurrect the IP again just yet, it's looking for your input. Posting a poll on Twitter, Lead Designer Tymon Smektała asked what players would like to see in a mythical Dying Light 3. It's no secret that the story of Aiden Caldwell paled in comparison to Crane's.

Aside from asking what kind of hero you'd want to play as in Dying Light 3, there was a massive disclaimer that this isn't an announcement of a third game. In the replies, most asked for a generic character you could customise similarly to Fallout 4 or Cyberpunk 2077

Someone said, "Have a cast of characters to choose from just like you guys did in Dead Island," while another added, "Bring back the feel of DL1 though, y'all nailed the movement (mostly) but I think everyone expected DL2 to be more like DL1." It's obvious the appetite is there, but will it happen?

Will there be a Dying Light 3?

The long-delayed Dying Light 2 gave us a DLC in the form of the Bloody Ties DLC in November 2022, with Techland promising five years of post-release support. This seemingly nixes the idea of Dying Light 3 until at least the late 2020s, but who knows what the team could be working on?

As early as May 2022, Techland was putting the feelers out on Dying Light 3, with Smektała telling VGC, "One thing is that if we’re making Dying Light 3, then I would like the main character to start with bigger and better starting abilities and skills'."

It's clear that if we do get Dying Light 3, there will be a bigger emphasis on its story. With Techland once again testing the waters, we're shuffling toward Dying Light 3 like a horde of deados, just don't expect it to be landing anytime soon.
