Even though Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 only released today, fans of the game are already wondering whether a spin-off could be in the works.

As evidenced by promotional materials, Venom plays a fairly large part in Spider-Man 2, which has led some players to ask for a game featuring the villain.

Spider-Man 2’s narrative director teased a potential Venom spin-off

Spider-Man 2's senior narrative director Jon Paquette spoke about a potential Venom spin-off in an interview with Insider.

He said: “So, here’s what we’re doing. We’re focused on ‘Spider-Man 2,’ and what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna wait to see how the fans react. We’re gonna listen to the fans and we’re gonna ask ourselves, ‘Okay, what do the fans really want?’”

Paquette went on to say that the team were going to regroup and decide what to do next after they had time to rest.

Spider-Man 2’s takes a lot of inspiration from Venom’s comic book storylines

Paquette said that the team took a lot of inspiration from Venom’s comic book appearances, which they then used to create their own story.

“There’s such a rich universe there, and there’s a lot that the comics have done,” he said. “We tried to take all that in, and then forget about it, and think about what would be best for our characters and our franchise.”

It is likely that any further Insomniac Games titles featuring Venom would take this same approach.
