Update 28/10/21: Snoop Dogg has thrown some fuel on the fire of GTA 6 news and suggested that Dr. Dre is indeed working with Rockstar Games.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Snoop said, "I do know he’s making great f*****g music. And some of his music is connected to the GTA game that’s coming out. So I think that that will be the way that his music will be released, through the GTA video game."

Original story continues below: The Grand Theft Auto series is no stranger to celebrity collaborations, with past entries featuring the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, Ricky Gervais, and even Cara Delevingne. Grand Theft Auto Online has even had a cameo by legendary rapper Dr. Dre, and according to leaks, he may be debuting new music in an upcoming update.

What is going on with Dr. Dre and GTA?

An Instagram influencer by the name of Gwil34 apparently ran into Dr. Dre at a steakhouse in Santa Monica and hit it off. After the chance encounter, he posted a picture with the rapper to his Instagram, where a follower asked if he had any intention of releasing new music. Gwil was rather forthcoming with his response, replying, "He said new music from him for [the] Grand Theft Auto game in December."

When Rockstar announced the upcoming Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition, at the end of the press release, the team hinted at something to do with GTA Online, stating, "Some well-known contacts and familiar friends need your help." This could be referring to the character Dr. Dre plays and some other unknown ones, suggesting they may play a role in the next story updates in some way.

How was Dr. Dre affiliated with GTA before?

There have also been tangible rumours that GTA IV's Gay Tony might be returning. A Twitter user who closely follows the GTA Online updates, reported on some new changes involving how nightclubs work in the game mode. Taken with the news above about characters returning, the king of Liberty City nightlife certainly has a chance to stake his claim in Los Santos.

Dr. Dre's appearance came back in San Andreas, when the N.W.A track "Express Yourself" featured on the in-game radio station, Radio Los Santos. He also had music featured in GTA V, and went on to star in a cutscene for the online component. Here, Dre appeared on a private jet with music producers DJ Pooh and Jimmy Iovine.

Rockstar Games hasn't commented on any of these rumours yet. Only time will tell, but with the end of the year on the horizon, and a new content update still to come, we'll hopefully find out very soon.
