A new Call of Duty game has finally arrived, and you'd better believe it's come with some controversy attached.

Fans have had their say on the game's multiplayer mode already, but the campaign they hadn't gotten their hands on until this morning had received some brutal critical heat in the gap between beta and launch.

Critics (us included) slated the game for being boring, bloated and uninteresting - three things that Call of Duty should never be.

And now, it looks like it's the game's turn to speak.

Sledgehammer Games responds to criticism on Modern Warfare III

Taking to the Twitter account of Sledgehammer Games, the studio head of the company Aaron Halon has spoken out about the development of Modern Warfare III, in response to both the love and critiques from fans.

"We’re incredibly proud of Modern Warfare III – both the full game experience at launch and the upcoming year of content we have planned for the community," he says.

"On behalf of the extremely talented team across Sledgehammer Games and our partner studios with whom we’ve collaborated on development, this has been a labor of love to lead the first ever back-to-back sequel in Call of Duty."

"We’re proud to be the team to lead the way on Modern Warfare III. We have worked hard to deliver on this vision which has been years in the making. Anything said to the contrary is simply not true – this is our game and we cannot wait to play it online with all of you.”

Fans respond to Sledgehammer's message to fans

There are some fans who have taken to the replies of the tweet to shower the team in love for all of their hard work - but others aren't so kind.

Modern Warfare III is shaping up to be one of the most controversial titles in the franchise yet - but what's Call of Duty without a little bit of kickback?
