Single-Player Battlefield Game Coming From DICE
Electronic Arts played Russian roulette with its latest instalment in the Battlefield franchise, but unfortunately, the chips didn't fall as the team had hoped.
Battlefield 2042 was a significant setback in the franchises' pack of cards, having only lasted a few hands before players realised that this wasn't their table.
Despite their best poker faces, EA doesn't seem fazed by its failures with 2042, and instead, is hoping that a new single-player title could hit the jackpot.
EA DICE Is Making A Single-Player Battlefield Game
Click to enlargeDICE is one of EA's three developer studios, and keen to keep the Battlefield tank rolling forward, is reportedly designing a new single-player Battlefield campaign.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, the new team will be helping Ridgeline Games make a new single-player title, which is a first for the developer studios who have previously been tasked with handling the multiplayer side of the franchise.
The unannounced outing is set to be a solely single-player - unlike previous instalments of the franchise. It seems like DICE is cutting its losses from 2042. Despite Battlefield's multiplayer roots, one of 2042's big misses was the fact there was no campaign.
Battlefield's Multiplayer Studios Pivot To Single-Player
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, DICE VP Rebecka Coutaz said, "Our decision to build out our single-player team here at DICE is a proactive approach that arms our global teams with the resources they need early on as we look ahead to the next Battlefield experience.
"Now, we are able to expand opportunities and benefit from new talent that will help Ridgeline write the next chapter for the franchise".
It's not known when this Battlefield project will be officially announced or even released, but the franchise is taking a leaf from Call of Duty's book by making sure even solo players are taken care of.
The multiplayer world of Battlefield isn't over, though. The live-service post-launch content for the existing 2042 title is still being followed through, with Season 4's Eleventh Hour expected to be released on February 28. That's as long as there aren't any setbacks.
Hopefully for DICE, a single-player pivot could see the dealers hand them a better deck this time, and everyone can finally look to reignite the franchise again. Remember when Battlefield 2042 was supposed to beat Call of Duty: Vanguard?
