It's been two years since Elden Ring first slashed its way into our lives, and by now, you'd think we'd be pretty good at it. Still, as the excruciating difficulty of its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has proved, FromSoftware isn't going easy on us.

While Hidetaka Miyazaki has assured us there will never be an 'easy mode', the DLC's first big patch has technically made Shadow of the Erdtree a little easier. More balancing is expected as our journey continues, but please, for the love of the Outer God of Rot, please do something about the Lookout Stones.

Shadow of the Erdtree's Lookout Stones are getting vengeance for Elden Ring

Our Shadow of the Erdtree review noted the horrible horde of new enemies that have marched into action, ranging from poster boys like Furnace Golems and the Blackgaol Knight to smaller foes like Bloodfiends and Curseblades. Still, do any of them compare to the palm-sweating fear of coming across a Lookout Stone?

Back in Elden Ring, you might remember Lookout Stones as a fairly innocuous creature in the Lands Between. Like with the poor Turtle Pope, you could decide to leave them alone or put them out of their misery, but for those who raised a blade to Lookout Stones, it seems like vengeance is theirs.

Over on Reddit, one player wrote, "F**K THESE GUYS" and vented their hatred of the Lookout Stones. It seems these sinister stones have been given an upgrade in the Land of Shadow, now shooting lasers from their eyes and serving like a sharp-shooting sniper.

The OP isn't alone in their hatred, with others sharing their own experiences of being taken out by souped-up Lookout Stones. One said, "I was so happy to see the little guys at first, like 'oh look it's the stone worms! Hi friends!' Then they started blasting laser beams and launching themselves at me. I felt so betrayed."

Another added, "Lost 200k runes to one of those f**kers (still on my original NG run so that sh*t HURT). I'm not salty or anything," and a third said, "The first one I saw, I placed a message. “Friend!” And then I went a little further into the BS. Felt like I betrayed a lot of people with that one lol

How to take out Lookout Stones

Thankfully, the thread is full of handy hints for beating these once-dormant enemies. Someone suggested, "Longbow with the talisman for longer reach. Out snipe the snipers by standing just barely covered and then jumping and shooting right after their stupidly powerful beam of purple hits your cover."

Another said, "They can’t hit you if you stand right under them. Run diagonal/time your rolls. Only a few hits to kill luckily," and someone simply concluded, "Just use a shield. They become a joke. Shield gamers keep on winning this DLC."

If you haven't come across a crop of sniper-accurate Lookout Stones yet, don't say we didn't warn you when they beat you to a pulp and leave your Runeless corpse in the dust.
