The Call of Duty League is in for some massive changes as the 2024 season enters its final stretch.

Activision has already confirmed that the franchise league as we know it is warping, as the developers revealed that all 12 teams would no longer have to continue payments for their $25million buy-in fees and anything paid so far will be returned to the orgs.

It's all in a bid to help grow the support for esports as a whole. This has now opened the doors to a plethora of opportunities, not least expansion in the league, and Seth "Scump" Abner has now called on the CDL to do just that.

Having once been a duo in tandem, with one being the champion and golden boy of the franchise, Scump and Activision's relationship hasn't been as fruitful since his retirement, especially with the recent $600m lawsuit for an "unlawful monopoly" of CoD esports heading towards arbitration.

But The King still loves his CoD and has now called on the league to make some well-needed changes. "In a perfect world, we get expansion," he began.

"We get at least four more teams in [the league], at least. We get open events either online or at Majors, and then we get four more (amateurs teams) in for a 20-team [tournament]. Pool play, five teams each pool, more matches, more CoD."

"Get rid of the League matches (qualifiers), let's get rid of the f**king League matches, and have 2ks and 5ks for seeding to pool plays," Scump added.

The ethos of "more CoD" is Scump's dream, and while he will likely be staying in his retirement status, he's now called for more games, more events, and more gameplay.

Activision's latest stance on the CDL was that it intended to "invest" in the esports scene, and Scump has used this beating stick to call for there to be more events throughout the year.

With the 2024 season being the shortest yet, he claimed that the perfect scenario would be to have six Majors and one World Championships throughout the campaign but with small 5ks to break up the calendar and give fans stuff to watch in the meantime.

He even suggested creator tournaments where full-CDL teams can compete, which would be a nice addition, given that the CDL blocks full-team events not endorsed by the league itself.

There's a lot of work to be done on the CDL this year, but maybe we will finally get that partnership-based league that we've always wanted.
