It's been a game of two halves for Warner Bros.' gaming division, and after the runaway success of Hogwarts Legacy saw it become the best-selling game of 2023, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League then led to the gaming giant losing a reported $200 million in 2024.

Despite plans for Kill the Justice League to keep on rolling out a roadmap of seasonal content, a damning Bloomberg report claims the superhero ensemble could already be on life support. Instead, Rocksteady could be rising from the ashes like the (order of the) phoenix to assist on a Hogwarts Legacy Director's Cut.

Bloomberg's Jason Schreier goes into what went wrong with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Warner Bros. head David Zaslav saw the gaming division as a jewel in the crown thanks to the success of Hogwarts Legacy and impressive sales of over 24 million copies. Sadly, the article refers to Kill the Justice League as a "historic dud."

Zaslav reportedly described it as a "disappointing release" which "overshadowed" the rest of the quarter. Rocksteady's future remains unclear, however, Schreier claims many of its staff are now working on a "director's cut" of Hogwarts Legacy.

This is the first we've heard of the project, but could this finally add in that long-rumoured DLC, or what about the addition of Quidditch? We've heard about a mythical Hogwarts Legacy sequel, but if we're getting a Director's Cut, it'll likely test the waters on whether the franchise still has legs. Its sales certainly suggest it does.

We know Warner Bros. is undergoing something of a shakeup with its gaming output, and similarly, we've heard that Monolith's Wonder Woman project could be in trouble. Superhero games are a tricky thing, and it's becoming increasingly clear not everything is the next Marvel's Spider-Man

Still, it's sad to see how far Rocksteady has fallen from the highs of Arkham City. Thankfully, it's not resigned to the abyss just yet. Rocksteady is also tipped to pitch a new single-player game, which will take it back to its roots. Could this be the full-blown Arkham Knight sequel we've been asking for since 2015?
