Rise of the Ronin gameplay asks you to forge your fate
Dubbed the "Japanese Assassins Creed", Rise of the Rōnin is really whetting the appetite of the hungry swordsmen and women, drooling to get their teeth into a samurai RPG.
The 19th-century title, developed by Team Ninja under the Sony Interactive branch, already appears to be the perfect blend of Ghost of Tsushima and AC Revelations, having first been revealed back in 2022's PlayStation State of Play.
Now, that same famous showcase has arrived in 2024, and Sony has taken the opportunity to grasp its katana with both hands, carving out a segment to reveal more Rise of the Rōnin gameplay.

Click to enlargeIn a thrilling State of Play expo, which also featured a wealth of content for upcoming titles like Judas, Sonic x Shadow Generations, and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, one of Sony's showstoppers was Rise of the Rōnin, where it showed off plenty of gameplay, ranging from exploration to combat.
From the same developer as the Nioh, combat looks to be particularly challenging. You'll need to have your wits about you as you parry incoming attacks with precision and deal just as much damage back.
Despite fantastical elements, it will be rooted in history, with the player able to take part in plenty of real-world battles. If you like a bit of history alongside your samurai action, Rise of the Ronin will be one to mark on your calendar this year.
When does Rise of the Ronin release?
Having first been revealed back in 2022, Rise of the Rōnin was later confirmed to have a March 22, 2024 release date, which was confirmed during The Game Awards 2023.
Pre-orders for Rise of the Rōnin have also already opened, where eager players have been able to get their digital hands on the game case through the PlayStation store.
With a focus on Japanese history's "darkest times" of the Bakumatsu period, which other developers have "shied away from", Team Ninja is hoping the gameplay features will complement a truly exciting story.
