The Resident Evil "revelations" are coming thick and fast, with the long-rumoured Resident Evil: Revelations 3 reportedly in the works. Away from the main numbered entries of Capcom's long-shuffling shooter series, there have been a host of Resiverse spin-offs that debuted to mixed reviews.

Sadly, for every Code Veronica, there's been The Umbrella ChroniclesThe Darkside Chronicles, and Umbrella Corps. Coming somewhere in the middle of the pack are the two Revelations games, begging the question of why we'd need another and STILL not confirm a Resident Evil 4 remake.

What's the Resident Evil: Revelations 3 rumour?

Trusted leaker Dusk Golem, aka @AestheticGamer posted on Twitter and claimed that the rumoured Resident Evil: Outrage is a revamped Revelations 3. The inside information comes from @jessedoeshorror, who previously delivered the scoop that Resident Evil Village would follow Ethan Winters in a snow-capped nightmare long before Capcom's official reveal. This means there should be some credence to their latest musings.

In particular, Resident Evil: Revelations 3/Resident Evil: Outrage is tipped to be a timed Nintendo Switch exclusive that will bring the story back to Rebecca Chambers. Although the rookie S.T.A.R.S. member and advisor to the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance isn't exactly a Chris Redfield or Ada Wong of this world, she's been with Resident Evil since 1996's original release.

The site Biohazard Declassified gives a more in-depth analysis of the rumours and claims Outrage was revealed in that unfortunate Capcom data leak from last year. Delving into spoiler territory, Outrage could just be a placeholder name, and much like the other Revelations games, it will be a whip back in time.

There was apparently a playtest that featured Rebecca teaching on a university campus, while the game could once again have a third-person over the shoulder mechanic.

Are the Resident Evil: Revelations 3 rumours true?

After the events of the Spencer Mansion incident, Chambers got her time to shine in 2002's Resident Evil Zero prequel. Aside from that, she's also appeared in the expanded canon and the likes of The Umbrella Chronicles and the Resident Evil: Vendetta animation, but has failed to really cement herself as a mainstay of the franchise. Could that change with another outing?

There are several things going against the announcement. Namely, it was supposedly going to be announced at this year's E3. Neither the Capcom nor Nintendo showcases announced anything even remotely relating to the above. It's possible an announcement is coming at a later date, but it seems odd to miss such a big opportunity - especially since Capcom was slammed for its lacklustre presentation.

Secondly, there are a lot of crossed wires on what happened to Revelations 3 after it was reportedly first mentioned in 2017. As well as ideas it was revamped into Outrage, there's a mention of something called Outbreak, and even whispers that the whole thing evolved into what eventually became Village. Elsewhere, Rebecca Chambers doesn't seem like the best way to continue celebrating Resident Evil's 25th anniversary.

Even for the complicated lore of the Resiverse, this all sounds like a right mess. Back in the earlier days when the various stories and characters spun out like a multiverse of madness, this screams hearsay and tinfoil. While we're hoping Capcom has a few more surprises up its sleeve this year, let's stick a pin in Resident Evil: Revelations 3 for now.
