Resident Evil 4 Remake Adds Terrifying New Enemy
Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake is arriving next month, and while some areas will certainly feel familiar, much of the game will feel very different indeed.
Whether it's through some new graphical polish or a conscious decision to rework sections such as the tedious parts of the original where you escort Ashley, we have faith in Capcom thanks to the incredible Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 2 Remakes (and we quite enjoyed No. 3, too, for all of its faults).
If there's one thing we don’t need more of, though, it's nightmare fuel. Impressively, Capcom seems to think we can handle it.
Resident Evil 4 Remake Adds A New Enemy Type
Resident Evil 4 wasn't short of weird and wonderful baddies and monsters (by which we mean terrifying), and many fans have no doubt got a soft spot for the Ganados, the Regenerators, or the most infamous of all, Dr Salvador (more commonly known as Chainsaw Man).
And yet, Capcom is ready to bring something potentially even worse to the remake, with a recent Game Informer preview showcasing what appears to be another very large Ganado, wielding a ridiculously oversized hammer, and wearing a cow’s head.
No, it doesn’t look like a mask, it literally looks like the severed cow's head. You can see the new character below:
Click to enlargeIn an accompanying interview, Art Director Hirofumi Nakaoka explains that animal heads, like deers and cows, have been used as set dressing in Resident Evil in the past, so the addition makes sense.
We're just hypothesising here, but it also feels like it brings the universe of Resident Evil 4 Remake a little closer to the Deep South stylings of Resident Evil 7, helping tie the two ends of the franchise together somewhat.
What's New In Resident Evil 4?
Terrifying cow hybrids aren't the only thing that's new. Fans of the Resiverse are told the remake will be scarier and have more of the fan-favourite Ada Wong. Added to this, there are rumours we could be adding Albert Wesker.
There's been a recent resurgence in survival horror games, and with RE4's new enemy type giving some serious Village vibes, we're hoping the remake will follow in the footsteps of the 2012 gothic horror.
Following in the footsteps of EA Motive's Dead Space remake, it looks like 2023 will be a bumper year for horror games. We can't wait to kick Ramon Salazar in the face one more time.
