PS5 sales reportedly obliterated Xbox in 2023
It's been quite the year in the good old console wars. Microsoft finally managed to get its Activision acquisition over the line, while Sony's catalogue of exclusive releases have dominated the charts.
So who came out as the winner in 2023?
Well, according to console sales, Sony's PlayStation has reportedly trumped Xbox three-to-one.

Click to enlargeAccording to Ampere Analysis, as per Financial Times, Sony's PlayStation sales have soared this year, gathering pace by a 65% increase over last year, taking them north of 22.5 million consoles sold in 2023.
Over in Camp Green though, sales haven't been as easy to come by, and instead have reportedly slowed down year-on-year by 18%, only managing to ship an alleged 7.6 million Xbox Series X|S'.
That figure sees Sony outsell its main console competitor by a ratio of three-to-one, with the gap having previously been as little as 3 million difference in favour of Sony.
Interestingly, Nintendo even outperformed Xbox, with Ampere Analysis claiming that the Switch had sold 16.4 million, doubling Xbox.
It's no wonder why Microsoft is so keen to try and put Xbox Game Pass on your PS5 and Switch...
PlayStation 5 sales hit 50 million sales
Click to enlargeHaving been released for three years now (November 2020) and meandering the pandemic, the Suez Canal blockage, and a shortage in graphics cards throughout that time period, PlayStation 5 sales have now surpassed 50 million.
PlayStation announced this milestone earlier this month, having previously hit the 40 million mark back in July of this year.
"Achieving this PS5 sales milestone is a testament to the unwavering support of the global PlayStation community and their passion for the incredible experiences created by the talented developers from PlayStation Studios and our partners,” said CEO Jim Ryan, before he steps away from the company in the new year.
So, for now, the console war is still firmly in Sony's control.
