It's been 28 years since we first fought for Pokemon cards over the playground, desperately trying to ditch your 10 Metapods and somehow get your hands on a shiny Charizard. Pokemon cards are still a major collectable, and now, The Pokemon Company has another expansion that'll tempt us to splash the cash.

The Pokemon Company International has just announced Scarlet & Violet—Stellar Crown, which is the latest expansion to the best-selling Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG). Launching on September 13, 2024, Stellar Crown is taking us back to Paldea.

Making the most of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's Terastal phenomenon, Stellar Crown adds Stellar Tera Pokemon ex to the Pokemon TCG. Stellar Tera Pokemon ex have a unique special stellar attack, each having names inspired by gemstones and costing three different types of Energy to use.

With a new set, there are unique illustrations that show off the crystalline qualities of the Stellar Tera Pokemon ex. To honour Scarlet & Violet's The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, Stellar Crown is adding Archaludon, Hydrapple, and the Legendary Terapagos to the mix for the first time ever.

As The Pokemon Company points out, noteworthy cards from Stellar Crown include:

  • Three ACE SPEC rare Trainer cards
  • 10 Pokémon ex and four Stellar Tera Pokémon ex
  • 13 illustration rare Pokémon
  • Six special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards
  • Three hyper rare gold etched cards

Scarlet & Violet—Stellar Crown cards are available in booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes, and special collections from the Pokemon Center and participating retailers worldwide. You can currently pre-order select products from the Pokemon Center in the USACanada and the United Kingdom.

This includes the Scarlet & Violet—Stellar Crown Pokemon Center Elite Trainer Box, which boasts two additional booster packs and one additional illustration rare-style promo card with the Pokemon Center logo.

You can also play Stellar Crown before launch by attending one of the TCG's Prerelease tournaments. These will be held as part of the Play! Pokemon competitive program that starts on August 31 at participating independent retailers

Finally, the Pokemon TCG Live app (available for iOS, Android, macOS and Windows devices) will let you play Stellar Crown digitally starting on September 12. Wannabe Pokemon masters can get to grips with the new Stellar Tera Pokémon ex and earn in-game bonuses by logging in.
