It's a case of once bitten, twice shy, as some players are vowing to skip out on the rumoured Red Dead Redemption remaster due to the problematic history of Rockstar Games. While many of you would love to stick on your spurs for another go with John Marston's adventure, we've learned to tread cautiously.

Rockstar has an acclaimed back catalogue of everything from Bully to Manhunt, with the long-running Grand Theft Auto series being its most famous. There's gold in them thar hills when it comes to remakes, but with 2021's GTA Trilogy falling short of the mark, we're wary about a Red Dead Redemption remaster.

Red Dead Redemption fans won't pre-order the game

With the Red Dead Redemption remaster looking more likely by the day, the question of its release is looming. There will be the inevitable pre-order window, and with the 2010 game being heralded as one of the best of all time, you can bet the pre-orders will be flying off shelves...or will they?

When asking whether they'll be pre-ordering on Reddit, swathes of gamers said they'd be waiting to see what kind of reception the mythical Red Dead Redemption remaster gets before agreeing to part with their cash. One grumbled, "I would not pre-order by any means given Rockstar's track record with remasters."

Another added, "There's no way I trust R* to put out a decent remaster after that, but hey hopefully I'll be surprised." Some pointed out Grove Street Games handled the GTA Trilogy instead of Rockstar, but as the leaked logo says "Rockstar Presents," others are worried development has been outsourced again.

When could a Red Dead Redemption remaster arrive?

There's clearly a lot of scepticism surrounding the rumoured Red Dead Redemption remaster, but for pre-orders to go live, we need an actual release date. It's all hearsay at the moment, but signs point to a winter release that's well in time for the Christmas rush - sorry Alan Wake 2

Over on Twitter, an unverified leak from Budzcario claims the Red Dead Redemption "remaster" could hit PS5, Xbox Series, and PC on November 17, 2023. This could come after an August reveal, although there's. no mention of the supposed Switch port. Much like the GTA Trilogy, this could be one of gaming's worst-kept secrets.
