Pedro Pascal gives update on The Last of Us Season 2 filming
When it comes to having a Midas touch, few have the skills of Pedro Pascal. From playing Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones to Javier Peña in Narcos, Din Djarin in The Mandalorian to Joel Miller in The Last of Us, he's never starred in a show with under 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.
While there were originally some sceptics about him playing Joel in The Last of Us - with some championing Thrones co-star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau - he's since won over critics as the series' gruff daddy. Now, Pascal has given us an update on Season 2.
When will The Last of Us Season 2 start filming?
Click to enlargePlenty of tears have been shed across The Last of Us first season, not least of all because we're nearly at the end of its nine-episode. At least we know Season 2 is on the way as we head into the arc of 2020's The Last of Us Part 2.
Speaking to Collider, Pascal gave a cryptic update on The Last of Us Season 2 filming and when things could start "clicking" into place. When grilled on whether cameras could start rolling this year, Pascal said jokingly said, "In the year 2023? Oh, what season are we in now? We're getting into spring?"
In the end, he gave us a more hopeful response and concluded, "Yes, there is a chance. Yes." Just because Pascal thinks we could start filming in 2023, doesn't mean those at the top will agree. We already saw Season 1's release move from 2022 to 2023, so who knows what Showrunner Craig Mazin is planning?
If (and it's a big if) we start filming The Last of Us Season 2 in 2023, expect to get some major casting news soon. It looks like we've already found our Dina, while Lev actor Ian Alexander told Insider they'd love to reprise their role from Part 2.
The big one will be the casting of antagonist Abby Anderson. There are plenty of fans who want Marvel's Florence Pugh, however, theorists think The Wilds' Shannon Berry could be the show's next big bad.
Will there be The Last of Us Season 3?
None of us are expecting The Last of Us to keep shuffling for decades like a certain other zombie series we won't mention, but we'd still like to see it extend beyond just 18 episodes. Because Part 2 is a much bigger game, fans hope it'll span two seasons.
Giving the nod to The Last of Us Season 3, Game Director and series Executive Producer Neil Druckmann confirmed we won't be going beyond the games but reiterated there's more story to adapt from Part 2. That definitely sounds like a two-parter to us.
Beyond that, continued rumours that The Last of Us Part 3 is on the way could give us more source material to adapt. Still, for those who've played the game, you'll know we shouldn't get too attached to a certain main character as we head into Season 2.
