It's all going on for Sega this year, who are cracking their knuckles, moving at supersonic speed to get out of the shadows, and hoping to leave their competitors with their tails between their legs.

The developers have announced a range of new instalments to the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise coming in the next two years.

Sonic Colours Remastered in Ultimate Edition

Familiar faces are set to return in Sonic Colours, as the remastered version of the game will see Sonic and Tails go up against their usual foe Dr Eggman, with the help of some aesthetically-pleasing friends.

Sega has announced that Sonic Colours: Ultimate will be coming to Nintendo Switch as of September 7, with pre-orders available now.

Sega Announce Sonic Origins

The publishing giants will also combine some of the most classic stories from Sonic's previous adventures into one space, with the release of Sonic Origins later in 2022. The collection will include the original Sonic the Hedgehog for Sega Genesis, as well as sequels Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD.

Open World Sonic Title In The Works

Within the Sega live stream, they revealed that one further project is in the works, which leakers have been quick to unveil. Screenshots of alleged Sonic the Hedgehog files show that the new title may be called "Sonic Rangers".

According to reports, the title will be an open-world adventure game. The publishers also announced that Sonic Mania and Team Sonic Racing will become available on PlayStation Now, alongside Sonic Forces on June 1st. The Epic Games Store will also be adding Sonic Mania to their repertoire of titles, as of June 24.

The Sonic franchise will continue to put the spikey hedgehog onto screens around the globe too, after announcing a new Netflix series names Sonic Prime.

Sega is in the driving seat in 2022, with Sonic the Hedgehog being back in the mainframe.
