It's been a while since the boots of Call of Duty's veteran protagonists landed on the ground after years of jet-packs and the "era of slide cancelling" dawned. As we enter a new chapter in 2024, it seems Treyarch is once again trying to reinvent itself.

Modern Warfare (2019) kicked things off with this movement mechanic, which erupted in Warzone and became a staple of the series for years to come. However, Black Ops 6's new omnimovement feature is reportedly ending this generation, as slide cancelling has been removed entirely.

Omnimovement is imminent, and thanks to some massive leaks, we've had an early look at how the system will work, including diving and sliding in different directions.

But while sliding will remain in the game alongside the dolphin dive, the mechanic of cancelling your knee skids might not be.

During the leaks, no evidence of being able to cancel your slides was seen, with some players even reporting to have tried and failed. This has left leakers claiming that slide cancelling has been axed.

There is a pinch of salt to take with these leaks, though, ahead of the Black Ops 6 Beta later in August, as the developers may still change this mechanic between now and release.

"I say CURRENTLY as it’s not in the build that is currently leaked and is being streamed. It could very well be in the final release. We’ll just have to wait and see," said one leaker.

Remembering back to Modern Warfare 2, the Beta test didn't have any slide cancelling in either, with Infinity Ward wanting to put an end to the advanced movement era too (in favour of a slow-paced shooter), before revisiting this.

Sliding will still have some effect in Black Ops 6, as it does appear that you can maintain some form of ADS while performing the movement (which has never been the case before), but as far as the speed boost goes, maybe jumping might be the way forward this year.
