There's a tuneful melody of 'Zelda's Lullaby' playing across Hyrule Field, as someone has finally shown off a truly new-gen version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Safe to say, a lot has changed in the past 23 years.

While the Zelda franchise was already flying by the time we got to Ocarina in 1998, this was a major step for the series as Link's first 3D adventure. Although there was the enhanced version for the 3DS in 2011, players have been calling for a more up-to-date revamp.

What Does Ocarina Of Time Look Like In Unreal Engine 5?

As shown by RwanLink on YouTube, this modernised Ocarina of Time is built in Unreal Engine 5. The glossy engine is all the rage right now thanks to Fortnite showing its potential, however, that's nothing compared to Zelda's overhaul. The latest video shows off Kakariko Village with 4K resolution, DLSS, and new textures.

RwanLink has said they don't intend on rebuilding the entirety of the beloved classic, so don't expect to be able to journey from Kokiri Village to Ganon's Castle. We've previously seen an 8K mod for Breath of the Wild to show it on steroids, but that's nothing compared to RwanLink's Ocarina

We don't know why the OP started with Kakariko Village, but here's hoping we'll get to see Twink Link race Dampé through the graveyard. Or, what about the horrors of the House of Skulltula in Unreal Engine 5?

What's Next For Unreal Engine 5?

Unfortunately, Nintendo isn't really known for its remakes - only the occasional remaster. Also, with news of the Nintendo Switch Pro seemingly out for the count, it's doubtful the Switch could handle a superpowered Unreal Engine 5 version of Ocarina

Added to this, there's no mention that Breath of the Wild 2 will use Unreal Engine 5. There were whispers of more Zelda remasters to join Skyward Sword in 2021 for the franchise's 35th anniversary, but these were quickly debunked

The Game Awards are on December 9 - which could be our last chance for hopes of a remastered or remade Ocarina of Time for a whole new generation.

Either way, Unreal Engine 5 seems to be the norm these days. We've already enjoyed this for the likes of BioShock and The Witcher 3, and although we'll probably never be able to play with this manga-style Link in an actual remake, it's impressive to see what could be done.
