Music and Fortnite have become linked over the last few years, with several big name artists hosting concerts within the game.

A new Festival game mode will be coming to Fortnite on 9 December, with one of the biggest names in music headlining in-game on opening day.

Fortnite Festival is a new rhythm game coming to Fortnite

While Chapter 5 of Fortnite launched today, players will have to wait until 9 December to have access to one of the new game modes which will be launching as part of the update.

Fortnite Festival is a new rhythm game which has been built by the creators of Rock Band.

Epic Games described Fortnite Festival on their website as “a new music game where players can play in a band with friends or perform solo on stage with hit music by their favourite artists.

“Built by Harmonix, the studio behind the iconic music game Rock Band, Festival marks the beginning of music gaming in Fortnite.”

The Weeknd will be hosting a concert to celebrate the launch of the game

In-game concerts are nothing new when it comes to Fortnite, and Eminiem’s recent big bang concert is just one of the many successful events that have taken place.

Travis Scott’s concert from three years ago was a huge success, which has 212 million YouTube views at the time of writing and shows the massive impact that music within Fortnite has.

Given the musical theme of Fortnite Festival, it is no surprise that a concert will be taking place to commemorate it, and this time The Weeknd will be performing.

During the concert, which will take place on Fortnite Festivals launch day, players will be able to play along to The Weeknd’s set in the same way that musical integration in Eminem’s concert was demonstrated.

Not much is known at this stage regarding which artists and songs could be featured in Fortnite Festival, however The Weeknd’s performance opens the door for future integrated events.
