We're opening up the Hive all over again, as Netflix has just revealed a glossy trailer for its live-action Resident Evil series. Albert Wesker is here, but it's not the snarling sunglasses guy you're used to.

Away from Johannes Roberts' panned Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City, we've got a different reimagining of Capcom's video game series. The confusingly titled Resident Evil hopes to "redefine the legendary horror franchise" with its first live-action series in the franchise's 26-year history.

When Is Resident Evil Releasing?

Posted by the official Netflix YouTube account, Resident Evil looks like nothing we've ever seen from the franchise before. Set to The New Seekers' "I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing", it's a haunting peek at what's to come - with a very Black Mirror vibe. Starring Lost and Fringe's Lance Reddick as Wesker, the story takes place over two timelines and focuses on his daughters, Jade and Billie.

While one is set in New Raccoon City in 2022, the other jumps to an apocalyptic London in 2036 - where we guess things have gone bad all over again. The official synopsis reads: "Year 2036 – 14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father's chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie."

Supernatural's Andrew Dabb is heading up the series, which looks to be a bold take on the source material instead of being just another retread like Welcome to Raccoon City. While we originally weren't sold on the idea, consider us flipping sides quicker than Ada Wong. Someone send in the shuffling zombies. Resident Evil hits Netflix on July 14.
