Last of Us Director Says Naughty Dog "Moving On" From Uncharted: "We're Done"
Fans have wondered for some time if the end for Nathan Drake is… well… the end. We've seen game studios bring series to a close just to reboot later time and time again, and frankly, no series is ever guaranteed to remain quiet forever.
Uncharted is one of those franchises that players have been desperate to see again, with Nathan Drake being one of the most iconic PlayStation mascots thanks to his Indiana Jones-esque adventures.
But, it looks like Naughty Dog has totally thrown the towel in and nixed the idea of Uncharted 5 - well, at least under its banner.
Naughty Dog Is Finished With Uncharted
Click to enlargeThe recent debut of The Last of Us has given us plenty in the way of perspective from Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann, and much of it has been exciting. Sadly, that has given way to sad news.
Though fans have demanded a return to Drake's story, it looks like Druckmann is too content with his arc the way it is to revisit Uncharted.
Speaking with BuzzFeed, Druckmann explained, "For us, Uncharted was insanely successful — Uncharted 4 was one of our best-selling games — and we’re able to put our final brushstroke on that story and say that we’re done. We’re moving on."
It's certainly not what some fans want to hear, but it's a fair statement from Druckmann. Drake's final hurrah was a critical and commercial triumph, and it makes sense that the team wouldn't want to encroach on that.
Pedro Pascal Was Involved In TLOU Within A Day
The interview with BuzzFeed might be packing sad news, but there are some more morsels that let us peek behind the curtain of the best show on television right now - and it turns out that one of its stars didn't need much convincing.
The interview reveals that Pedro Pascal, the Mandalorian himself and The Last of Us' live-action Joel, took only a day to decide to be a part of the series after reading the first script.
"We had been eyeing him for a while as a potential for this role — mostly because we knew we would make a mistake if we cast a purely tough guy as Joel," Druckmann says of Pascal.
"I'm not saying Pedro isn't tough, he can be very tough! But it's all the other aspects that are more interesting and harder to find in a really good actor.
Explaining what these attirubes need to be, Druckmann concluded, "Which is someone where you can just look in their eyes and find a tortured soul. Or someone that can have these moments of levity and these moments of charisma."
Naughty Dog might be busy, but it looks like Uncharted simply won't be making it back to the drawing board any time soon. Sorry.
