Here we go again. Your annual Call of Duty-inflicted migraine is nearly here. The yearly head-throb of a new Gunsmith system is approaching in the CoD cycle.

The da Vinci or Enigma codes were easier to crack than building this year's meta Assault Rifle, and Modern Warfare 3 is only making life even more difficult.

Ahead of the Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer reveal, Sledgehammer Games has revealed a new Gunsmith feature called Aftermarket Parts, which is making life even more confusing.

Modern Warfare 3 adds a brand-new Gunsmith feature: Aftermarket Parts

Modern Warfare 2019 really upped the ante in terms of how much leeway you have with your weapons and how much customisation you can add to the base gun. Since then, it's been built upon significantly into the MW2 version we have today.

But heading into Modern Warfare 3, Aftermarket Parts are to be added to the Gunsmith to work somewhat similarly to how the long-forgotten Weapon Vaults were supposed to. It offers players the chance to unlock attachments for other guns while using their favourite and creating the opportunity to cross-manufacture said weapons.

Sledgehammer Games has said that it wants this to "create oddballs which opponents are completely taken off-guard by." The devs added in a social media post, "It's going to expand playstyles dramatically."

Following the new features being revealed by Sledgehammer Games, fans have now grown tired of this weapon-building headache and would prefer the Gunsmith system to go back to what it was nearly 15 years ago.

"Just give us the 'pick 10' system back. Why do I have to play chemist in building a d**n weapon?" one fan said. Another added, "Just want a normal cod gunsmith with pick 10, is that so hard to ask for?"

The Pick 10 system was the first way to build your loadout back in games like Black Ops 2, where you only had ten slots for your perks, attachments, secondary, and equipment. It meant you had to choose between a Red Dot and a grenade, back when times were much simpler.

Sledgehammer will be hoping that the Aftermarket Parts will be better than Weapon Vaults, but it might be time that they started rolling back the years.
