Modern Warfare 2 Goes Viral For 'Stunning' Amsterdam Recreation
If you've ever fancied visiting the Dutch capital, but have yet to make the trip to the Netherlands, now you don't have to. Simply fire up a smoke machine and dive into the Modern Warfare 2 campaign - even pop your red LED lights on if you really need that vibe.
Call of Duty is no stranger to depicting real-life places, and Infinity Ward is quickly becoming the master at picking up iconic locations and dropping them into their games.
Following on from Modern Warfare 3's Renaissance map on the streets of Paris and MW2019's Picadilly, Infinity Ward has chosen to use Amsterdam in this year's title, and fans are blown away by its intrepid accuracy.
Modern Warfare 2 Developer Shares Amsterdam Footage For Campaign's Inspiration
The streets of Amsterdam play host to two early missions in the Modern Warfare 2 campaign, with Captain Price, Gaz, and Laswell shifting through the capital city both in the day and night time.
The latter mission takes place just outside of the Oude Kerk church in Amsterdam - the oldest building in the city, dating back to 1306. Its replication in Modern Warfare 2 is almost flawless. Infinity Ward Narrative Director Jeffrey Negus has now shared a video of the inspirational landscape of the mission.
Negus' video, has now been run side-by-side with the Modern Warfare 2 gameplay footage, and fans have been blown away by how accurate the scene is. Down to the brickwork, cafe banners, and no alcohol permitted signs, it's nearly perfect.
Fans applaud Call of Duty's Amsterdam Mission
People were quick to share Infinity Ward's depiction of Amsterdam, after being stunned by the mission, which strays away from controversial actions within the mission, and rather just sees Captain Price and Gaz fire one or two shots at Cartel members on the streets before fleeing the civilian-heavy scene.
Players quickly jibed that Infinity Ward's version seemed more realistic than actual camera-captured footage, outlining what a stellar job the developers have done bringing Amsterdam to life.
One native fan did post a satire threat that outlines teeny-tiny discrepancies such as the lack of numberplates on motorcycles, the street buskers' allotted time slots, and the lack of cyclists flying past your face, but soon added, "it's a great level and so recognizable as Amsterdam I couldn't help but explore to nitpick these tiny little details."
Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 campaign is also being hailed as one of the most impressive stories that Call of Duty has produced in a long while, which compliments the time and care put into scenes just like this.
