Leaked Assassin’s Creed Victory footage shows what Syndicate could’ve been

Footage from Assassin's Creed Victory has leaked online, showing off the original concept for the game that would eventually become Assassin's Creed Syndicate. As the name suggests, Victory was going to take us to Victorian London, which remained the setting of Syndicate. 

Back in 2014, a now-infamous Kotaku article showed off Assassin's Creed Victory and caused a major backlash against the outlet. Ubisoft was forced to announce the game early and said it was disappointed by the leaks. A whole decade later, we're struck by fresh Assassin's Creed Victory leaks.

Assassin's Creed Victory leaks online

Over on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, someone showed off early prototype footage for Assassin's Creed Victory. There were also leaks for Empire and Golden Age, which would eventually become Origins and Black Flag. 

We see footage of protagonist Jacob Frye, the UI, and even some very early pre-alpha gameplay. Notably, we get a sense of what Syndicate could've been. Early screenshots showed off a much darker vibe and George Westhouse outfit, which were notably missing from the eventual release.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate had a lot going for it, also being the first game in the series to pick the gender of your character (playing as either Jacob or Evie). Still, there were criticisms that we didn't get a dark and brooding AC game that Victorian London lends itself so easily too. 

The Creedverse is growing

Assassin's Creed has grown a lot since the humble days of Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Following the Viking adventures of Valhalla and smaller scale of Assassin's Creed Mirage, 2024 and beyond are stealthing into our lives with a smorgasbord of AC titles. 

The big one is the long-awaited trip to Feudal Japan for Assassin's Creed Codename Red, which although expected to arrive in 2024, is still without an official release date. Assassin's Creed Hexe is promised to be a very different type of AC game and is supposedly set during the witch trials of 16th Century Europe.

Assassin's Creed Jade is pitched as an open-world mobile game, and finally, there's Assassin's Creed Infinity. Infinity serves as a hub where we can jump between different historical playgrounds. This is the most mysterious upcoming release, and we'll be honest, we're still not sure what it's all about. 

While Ubisoft is criticised for its focus on live-service games, Assassin's Creed remains one of its biggest properties. Even though there might be accusations that the developer is going too hard on releasing AC games, don't pretend you won't be there and playing them on day one.
