Some horror directors are worth their weight in buckets of blood. Whether it be the dearly departed Wes Craven or newcomers like Ari Aster and Jordan Peele, we can't get enough of throwing money at the idea of having our pants scared off us.

Among the greats still in the business, the legendary John Carpenter has come a long way from 1978's Halloween. As well as having acclaimed outings like The Things in his pocket, Carpenter recently returned to provide the music on Blumhouse's Halloween trilogy.

Someone with his chilling credentials likely has his pick of projects, but according to the man himself, he's definitely not working on a live-action Dead Space movie.

Last year, the 74-year-old horror auteur explained his love of video games like Fallout 76, and said how he'd love to direct a live-action Dead Space movie. There's a difference between wanting to and actually being able to.

Sadly, Carpenter confirmed to Variety it just ain't happening. When asked about Dead Space, Carpenter said, "No, no, no. I can't believe how that spread.

"I'm a big video game fan, so I played all the games. I was down looking at the new digital cameras, the RED, and happened to mention to them that I would love to do a 'Dead Space' film. That just went around, and everybody said, 'Oh, when are you gonna do it?' I'm not gonna do it."

Carpenter then went on to say, "I think they already have another director involved. And they haven't asked me to do it. So until someone asks me, I wouldn't do it." The problem is, that's news to us.

Is A Dead Space Movie In The Works?

At the time of writing, there has been no confirmation of a Dead Space movie, so we don't know where Carpenter is getting his information from. It's possible that he knows something we don't, but to be honest, you'd expect Hollywood to be pretty up-to-date on that one.

The good news is that with no Dead Space movie currently on the horizon, there's a chance Carpenter could take the reins when/if it gets the green light.

2023 sees the release of EA Motive's glossy Dead Space remake, and with it hopefully reminding us what made the OG great, it's sparking hopes of a renewed interest in the franchise.

Whether we get the long-rumoured Dead Space 4, a full-blown movie, or something more intimate like a TV series, video game adaptations are everywhere right now. While we were once confined to abysmal outings like Mortal Kombat: Annihilation or the Dwayne Johnson-led Doom, we're in something of a renaissance.

Paramount's Halo series and Sony's Uncharted movie are just fine, but with HBO's The Last of Us series being dubbed the greatest game adaptation of all time, expect studios to be jumping on their forgotten IPs. It's about time someone cast Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Isaac Clarke.
