"Snik," can you hear that? It sounds like Insomniac Games popping out a pair of adamantium claws and getting ready to slice and dice the competition in 2023. While we've been reassured the studio's Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is coming next year, will it also be joined by Marvel's Wolverine?

In September 2021, the PlayStation showcase confirmed that Marvel's Wolverine is on the way from Insomniac games. While various Easter eggs in 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man pointed toward everything from a Black Panther to Daredevil spin-off, the clawed Canadian gets the honour of expanding the franchise away from Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

Marvel's Wolverine has a new leak

You might think that Insomniac has its plate pretty full now with getting Spider-Man 2 out on time, but thanks to a pretty bombastic leak from Microsoft, we could be getting two superhero games from the developer in 2023. In a time that God of War Ragnarok's Sony Santa Monica and Hogwarts Legacy's Avalanche Software struggle to get even one game out, Insomniac could show us how it's done.

As spotted by Tech4Gamers, Microsoft has mentioned Wolverine in its court documents. Going slightly off track, Microsoft and Sony are currently locked in a war of the words over the impending Activision Blizzard acquisition, meaning both sides have had their innards spilt all over the courtroom floor.

In the documents, Microsoft writes, "PlayStation also has a spate of first and third-party exclusive titles lined up for 2023, including Spider-Man 2, Wolverine, Horizon, Final Fantasy XVI, and Forspoken." It's true that we're hoping to get Horizon Call of the Mountain alongside the PSVR2 in 2023, but this is the first we've heard about Marvel's Wolverine next year.

Could Marvel's Wolverine Really Release In 2023?

Going in favour of this being the real deal, remember that Sony has apparently delayed its big PlayStation showcase because its slew of first-party games would've proved it doesn't need Call of Duty to survive. Most guessed this would've included Konami's recently announced Silent Hill 2 remake, but could it really have given us a jaw-dropping confirmation of a 2023 release date for Marvel's Wolverine?

Against the idea of an accelerated release schedule, Marvel's Wolverine was in "very early development" last September, so it seems improbable it's leapt forward for a 2023 release. Insomniac did release two Ratchet & Clank and two Spider-Man games in the space of five years, but if we were them, we'd space them out a little. Even though we wouldn't put any money on Wolvie squeezing into his spandex next year, it would be a pleasant surprise... for once.
