Whoah, we're back to the island, as Sucker Punch Productions prepares to release its Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut. As a retooled version of 2020's genre-defining title, the Director's Cut comes with much more than just the base game. With the mysterious Iki Island expansion promising to deliver more, fans are rightly asking what's on the way with the samurai-swinging slaughter-fest.

For longer than we care to remember, Sucker Punch job listings were hinting at a sequel or some form of DLC. We were just off the mark, as the Director's Cut confirmed a remastered version of last year's game for PS4 and PS4, the long-rumoured single-player DLC as the Iki Island expansion, Legends online co-op, skin set, some exclusive in-game items, and a digital mini art book. Basically, you get a lot of Yen for your buck.

What's the Iki Island expansion leak?

Posting on Reddit, u/QualityAssuranceTest claims to have the inside scoop on Iki Island. The OP is apparently a QA tester who has helped Sucker Punch, which would give them impressive credentials for Ghost's Director' Cut. Most importantly, the Ikishima Island expansion is said to be about the size of Tsushima Island's lower portion. So, it's going to be pretty big.

The post explained, "Despite not being a beta tester for GOT, I'm familiar with the game after spending countless hours in its immersive world. I did however beta test GOT Ike Island and I'd like to share with you some of the details I enjoyed". If the rumours are to be believed, Iki Island would add 15-20 hours of additional gameplay. That being said, they only stuck to the main questline - suggesting there could be a lot more.

In terms of what else you can expect from Iki Island, new animals like leopards, squirrels, and monkeys could be on the way. Torches are equipped for a reported cave section, and there is a tonne of new armour grades. Finally, there's apparently an active volcano, which makes Iki Island sound like a Bond villain's paradise.

Is the Iki Island leak real?

As with all these kinds of "leaks", we'd say air on the side of caution. Only recently, a supposed GTA 6 map leak was debunked, with the poster admitting they just did it for the clout. Considering Ghost of Tsushima is an equally massive AAA game, it's not hard to imagine someone making up the fact they're a QA tester who has tried out Iki Island. Added to this, the name u/QualityAssuranceTest is a little too on the nose for our liking.

Other Redditors were equally suspicious that this is the real deal. One modder wrote, "The reason this post is approved is that it initially got removed. The approval on this post does not mean that this is legit in any way. Take this post with a grain of salt". Still, there are hopes Iki Island can set up a full-blown Ghost of Tsushima 2 and a possible trip to mainland Japan.

Whatever is on the way, the Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut is out on August 20, so there isn't that long to wait. Newcomers can buy the game outright on PS4 or PS5, while those who already own the original PS4 release can pay for the upgrade and expansion. Although disgruntled players have called out a $29.99 price tag to upgrade from the base PS4 game to the PS5 Director's Cut, we think it's well worth it to explore a new locale.
